Professional Practice and Placement Module - Week Three
The weekend following our third Teams meeting regarding our Professional Practice and Placement module, I visited the Waiting Room Gallery both to see their current exhibition and to pick up one of my paintings they exhibited before the lockdown in March. Whilst discussing re-opening for them and being back at university for myself during a pandemic, the team there offered me a placement! I have not yet decided if I will take them up on the offer, the gallery is very close to home and is somewhere I enjoy visiting as well as an interesting place to do a placement. I would have to ask more about what they could offer. I also feel like I would like to find a placement working with people I have not yet worked with before which could potentially rule out the Waiting Room.
After hearing from the guest speakers I was really interested in the window space at Air Space Gallery. I know some of the other students are interested but Rebecca has encouraged us to all apply as after university competition for roles would be standard. Rebecca also suggested Gemma from Appetite would be great to contact to find interesting and unusual spaces to exhibit in if the placement at Air Space is given to someone else. I am seriously considering applying but only once I have a better idea of what I might exhibit and how the space might be used. I will spend some time on their website looking at previous exhibitions to see how other artists have responded to and curated their work within the space.
Finally, before next week I plan to have my CV, cover letter and mini folio started at the very least so it will soon be ready to use in a placement proposal.
