Professional Practice and Placement Module - Week Four

In this week's session on Teams we were given advice on writing a CV, a cover letter and putting together a mini folio for both this module and for use in the future. During the lecture, Rebecca asked us to consider what kind of context we would like our placement to be in, what skills we would like to learn, what our aims and goals are and how they will be incorporated in our proposals. Having had experience with events and workshops at in a theatrical/circus setting in the past, I originally thought about trying to find a placement where I could learn more about performing and being involved with or creating art based events. However, after enjoying last year's Exhibiting and Curating module alongside attending recent exhibitions (especially Jimmy Cauty's MdZ Estate Tour) I think I would like to learn about curating exhibitions from experienced artists and curators in a gallery.

I have looked at the previous exhibitions at Air Space Gallery over the last week as well as researching other window spaces used for exhibitions including the Modern Window at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. I am hoping this will help me with my own proposal. The deadline to apply to Air Space for this placement is coming up fast so from this point I need to start getting my ideas together ready to write my proposal. If I have not settled on something in time, I will have missed a great opportunity but know that there will be other viable options to consider. There is no guarantee that I will get the placement even if/when I do apply, this is something I am already used to in my existing creative career so I feel prepared.
