AirSpace Gallery Residency - Install Week
This week is install week! Over the weekend I finished and sent in my proposal for the window exhibition and now it's time to prep for it. I spent the first two days of the week finishing the bed of nails - I had to file all 836 holes as they were a little too tight for the slightly textured nails, and then hammer each nail in one by one, with plenty of breaks for the drill and needle file to cool down and for my arm not to fall off. On those breaks I sat at my sewing machine and made a final mask which will be exhibited alongside the bed of nails in the window.
Since finishing the bed I have taken some photographs for the exhibition poster and for a mini-folio on the AirSpace Gallery website. The acrylic is really difficult to photograph as it reflects everything, and difficult to light effectively for the same reason. But the transparency does allow for photographing through it and allows for great shadows and reflections from the nails.
This afternoon will be spent selecting a small number of those photos to be sent over for the website and typing up a work statement using parts of my proposal and notes in my sketchbook.
I am also planning to write a shopping list for the installation on Saturday so I can get everything together beforehand ready to install.
Tomorrow I have a mentor meeting with Rosanna Cade which I'm really looking forward to and will write about separately.
