AirSpace Gallery Residency - Window Proposal

At the end of last week, I ordered machined acrylic cut to size to make a bed of nails prop and sculpture which arrives today! I am really looking forward to getting started on that as I was a little concerned I wouldn't have enough time to complete the sculpture for the upcoming interim exhibition in the window space at AirSpace. Whilst waiting on the acrylic, I have spent the last week or so working on my proposal for the window, which included planning/sketching ideas for both receiving the material in time and not. I have also been experimenting with the nails themselves, mask making and embellishment ideas, and using make-up and make-up wipes as a material.

My proposal has to be finished for this coming Saturday the 12th of November ready to install the exhibition next Saturday - on the 19th. I was slow to start the proposal and at one point managed to spend two hours on only three words (there was a lot of backspace-ing), but now I'm more certain of what I can achieve and what materials are going to be available to me, I feel ready to finish it ready for submission.

This last week has felt like it's been the most productive so far and seeing progress has been really positive. I'm looking forward to getting the proposal handed in - and ideally a little early - as the ACAVA open studios at Spode are the same day as the deadline. I plan to head down so would like not to have an unfinished or un-submitted proposal on my mind.

As well as attending the ACAVA open studios this week, the artists at AirSpace are meeting to plan an open day of our own scheduled before Christmas. 6pm tonight we have a Zoom meeting to discuss ideas, preparing the space, and poster design, making and distribution. I think its going to be a great opportunity for the resident artists to get involved with the studio community here and I'm looking forward to an opportunity to invite friends, family, and fellow creatives to come and see what we're all getting up to!
