In The Window Placement - Work and Artist Statements

Before we can go ahead with promoting the exhibition "In The Window", Glen at AirSpace needed some promotional material and statements from me in order to post online about the upcoming exhibition. I began by gathering any relevant images of my current work and my practice in general for the webpage and social media content as mentioned in my last blog post before writing my statements. I read through some of the statements from previous exhibitions for inspiration and to get a feel for the language and tone of each before I started my first drafts. I only had 150 words for each so my next step was to consider and then make note of what was important to include. I typed up my work statement first, double checked it for spelling and grammar before sending to peers on the Fine Art course to ask their opinion. Bar a couple of sentences that two of my peers were unsure about, which I then reworded and rearranged, I had positive feedback so considered that statement finished. My artist statement was much harder to write as it was a broader statement about myself, my influences and my practice with such a small word count. After a few drafts and cutting back I was finally happy to again send it to my peers for their feedback. Again the feedback was positive so I bit the bullet and sent all of the above to Glen, with a note in my email to ask if they were sufficient; I await a response.
