In The Window Placement - Semester One Feedback
The Professional Practice and Placement module was the first module we received our feedback for from the first semester. We had both a one-to-one tutorial with the course leader and an email containing our assessment form. I was really pleased to discover I had received a first for this module! I spoke with Anna Francis on Microsoft Teams as she has now returned from maternity leave but both Anna and Rebecca Davies, our lecturer last term, assessed our work. I was looking forward to hearing from Anna as well as hearing my feedback as we had yet to learn from her on this module although Rebecca has been amazing thus far.
The feedback for the proposal pack I submitted was mostly very positive. According to Anna, it was organised and professional with design features that made it stand out. The cover letter was confident and professional in tone, the CV was well organised and showed my already developing profile within the arts, the mini-folio demonstrated a developing aesthetic and included intriguing images that showed a wide range of approaches and finally, the proposal clearly set out what I hoped to gain from the placement and how. However, Anna felt that I ought to have included indicative imagery on my cover and contents page to contextualise the proposal pack and said that I should have explained exactly what I had planned to install In The Window in my proposal as I only briefly touched upon my plans for the upcoming exhibition. At the time of the module deadline, I had yet to decide what exactly I would exhibit. In hindsight, I should have come to a final decision about this before submitting. I opted to take the extra time in-between deadlines to consider my plans more carefully, but my delay ultimately lost me marks unnecessarily. In the tutorial, Anna went on the explain that in a lot of cases exhibition plans change as the work is installed as those installing respond to the space and any logistical problems. I could have included my initial plans in the proposal pack, even if my final exhibition proposal for AirSpace changed or developed. I will be sure to bare this in mind in future.
