In The Window Placement - AirSpace Gallery - Week Six - Installation
This week we installed Fragile Economies by Jasmine Pajdak and Emma Bang 'In The Window' at AirSpace Gallery. I hired a camera from the university to document both the install and the final result (images below). Jasmine - with regular input from Emma in Copenhagen via video call - was mostly self-reliant in terms of installing the work, she occasionally asked for physical help or suggestions from myself or Glen but did a lot of the work herself. This meant I could focus on documentation and captured some great candid moments and the rare moments that the work was well lit as it was a grey day with limited sun! In addition to taking photos, throughout the day I had plenty of opportunities to ask questions and discuss Jasmine and Emma's practice with Jasmine as we worked, as well as briefly touching upon my own work and my own ideas for the window space which will be immeasurably valuable not only for this next exhibition but for any in future. Furthermore, having now familiarised myself with the space I feel I am better equipped to develop ideas for how to present my work in the window, as well as having practiced documenting work in the space which is particularly difficult to photograph due to glass reflecting the street. The next morning, I selected what I thought were the best images, adjusted and cropped them accordingly and sent to both Glen and Jasmine via WeTransfer. Both Glen and Jasmine said they were pleased with the images and have used them on social media already, although Glen had already agreed to post them as part of my placement it was great to have positive feedback and to see them used by Jasmine who could have chosen not to. Overall, it was an excellent experience and I am feeling much more confident about the next stage of my placement.
