In The Window Placement - AirSpace Gallery - Week Three - Selection

This Monday I spent the day looking through the applications for the upcoming In The Window opportunity, making notes on each ready for a Zoom meeting with Glen on the day of selection. Every one of them was really interesting and it was a great opportunity for me to see lots of different ways of writing proposals before having to do my own. First, I typed up notes about the type of work and how the artist had said the work would be exhibited, taking into consideration what I had been told AirSpace Gallery keep an eye out for. Then, I considered how strong the proposal was in terms of the written proposal itself, how each applicant had illustrated how they would use the space as well as the way they had composed their CV and portfolios. Finally, I gave each a mark out of 10 purely to ascertain which were strongest in my mind. The mark out of 10 was the hardest part of the process for me, it felt quite reductive to treat the proposals that way as someone currently relatively unfamiliar with writing them. However, I now think I have a strong idea of what makes a good proposal and hope it will help me to cover all bases for my own in future, which I am truly grateful for.

The following day was selection day, Glen and the panel spoke before our Zoom meeting and discussed each proposal at length before deciding on their final selection. Glen then called me and went through each of them with me before letting me know not only which had been chosen but also why it had been chosen over others. Glen was impressed with the notes that I had made and said it was very similar to the way in which they look at applications at AirSpace. I mentioned struggling to give a mark out of ten and he mentioned that they also use a traffic light system which I might prefer should I ever be involved in this type of selection in future. He thought I noticed and noted the right things in my notes which is good to know and although I am not at the point where I need to write my own proposal for In The Window, I feel like I am ready to. It has given me a boost in confidence and some really useful experience. I cannot say more about the individual proposals as the proposals at they are kept private but I was very pleased to hear that my personal favourite proposal had in fact been selected.

As the proposals are top secret including the final selection, here is a picture of my cat "helping".
